
WHAT IS MUSIC THERAPY?
Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program (defined by AMTA).
Music Therapists use a wide variety of musical interventions based on a clients needs and abilities. A client who is receiving music therapy may experience the following:
playing percussion instruments (drums, shakers, cabassa, frog, etc.)
songwriting
adaptive music lessons
lyric substitution
music and relaxation exercises
movement to music (dance and movement songs)
Music Therapy promotes wellness, manages stress, alleviates pain, helps express feelings, enhances memory, improves communication and promotes physical rehabilitation.
